Been out of the game for 25 years, yeah, 25! I have just finished a 54 chevy truck streetrod and would like to install a very nice sounding system, loud is fine but quality more important. I mainly listen to Rock. Ihave ripped most of my cds in a lossless format (wav) and would like to play them in he truck. I would love to hear some opinions on recommended equipment from head unit to amps to speakers/subs. Budget wise....$1k t0 $1500. Thanks for your help.

ok,

HU- I'd go with a Kenwood bottom line

Amps- maybe a nice 4 channel say a Rockford or Kicker

Speakers- Pioneer 3way or a nice set of Inifinty components

Subs-BostonG1-G2

That would seem like a clean sounding setup to me. But would probably run you a little over $1500

what kinda space do you have for a sub. but as far has a amp i would go wht a memphis belle 5 channel you could get them cheap on here and than base ur mids and highs subs off that amp

Come on people, give up some info!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
I'm sure that folks would like to help you, but they can't say much without knowing more about the truck. Like, where do you plan to install the speakers? How much space is there to work with? Will you be installing the gear, yourself? You may also want to post some pics of the interior and the trunk.

Another option is to find a shop that you're comfortable with and letting them help you, since they'll be able to see the truck and discuss your needs directly. It's an unusual vehicle and it's almost impossible to make intelligent suggestions without more info.

as far as layout goes it is really no different than a modern regular cab pickup. I have room for 1 12" or 2 10"s if that is better. Components and plenty of room in custom console. I am able to build/install myself but am not familiar with todays equipment.

you should try either a 10w3 jl sub or 2 sundown E8s my 2 E8s shine awsome on rock alternative n heavy metal do good on country and rap also they are only gettin 100 rms each so you wont need a big amp to run them

as far as amps a good 4 channel or a jl 500/5 something like that

deck run a a lpine cda-9887 nice unit can change colors to match trucks lights and fairly user friendly

mids go with some focal componets or hertz either you will get good sound from and clean but if you on budget by then look into CDT they have nice componets

this is my opionin on this i just did a simular set up in a 50 chevy last week for a 55 year old guy

he went with all but the E8s he went 2 jl 8s

Someone on here is selling an excellent Ural CDD. It is an excellent audiophile headunit.

I think he wants $400 for it.

For amps, look for used Sundown, Audison, Zapco, Stetsom, etc... MANY options.

For subs, there's SO MANY options.

For speakers, look at Rockford Fosgate, Rainbow, Focal, CDT, Hertz, the list goes on.

Ill agree on getting an Eclipse head unit.

An Alpine PDX 5ch amp would be great in your truck, they are about the size of a standard piece of paper and fit anywhere.

as for speakers, Alpine, JL, Image Dynamics. all quality.

Went through similar thing for the past 4 weeks searching and listening to stuff. Went with a Kenwood BT 742U headunit because of the bluetooth, Iphone/Ipod interface and Sirius ability, Boston Acoustics speakers (SL 80's) for easy install in the doors and a sealed 12" Boston Acoustics G2 sub driven by Alpine amps. I wanted to go with an Alpine PDX-5 amp but the sub I picked was not compatible. I'll be picking up my Explorer tomorrow and will post impressions. I'm 36 and been out of the car audio world for about 15 years now...
