Subwoofer Amp goes into protection when volume is high.

Ok heres the setup:

2 dual 2 ohm square 10's (credence)

kicker ix1000.1

Subs are wired for 4ohm each then paralleled to 2ohm into amp

Amp is 2ohm stable

Heres the deal:

This setup sounded excellent in my pickup for months, I move system into my peterbilt (semi truck) and now the amp cuts out at high volume.

The voltage is stable and doesnt drop too much when playing. Wires are big (welding leads), alt is 200amp, 3 yellowtops, so I dont think the problem is there.

Speakers check out fine on DMM for res.

No shorts in cables.

The only thing I have different in the setup is headunit and enclosure. Headunit is Kenwood KDC-BT848U bought new a couple months ago. Enclosure is sealed now, whereas the pickup box was long, narrow, and ported.

I have search all over the innerweb and read tons of post on this similar matter.

Before I go out and spend too much money changing different things out, I wanted to check one more thing.

Question: Would the sealed box have anything to do with this problem since I was jammin the hell outta the ported one.

Thanks for yall's time that you put into answering questions for new registrants like me who never sign up on forums untill they need somthing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Seriously though, thanks for any help you can offer.

Sounds like the subs are wired correctly for the ohms load described. Not knowing the model #of the subs to google up for the specs, wondering if those subs need be ported by specs,or not?? Yet,Kinda sounds like you have a bad sub IMO.You can take the subs out,and when you do...You can surely smell that aweful foul odor of mr Good bye.I dont use a DMM,but should..If you know how to,you can check the OHMs value on each sub from what I understand.I like to port all my subs to get that heat out of that enclosure anyways,a sealed enclosure IMO,generates heat, and it looks for a way out under pressure...???I always run my amps no more than the 2-oclock position on the gains, and almost never use loud button/bass boost.Yet,I am betting on a bad sub,may have just had enough of the banging/heat in that sealed box,so, check your subs out..IMO.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

possibly bad ground. More likely you're used to the output of ported (or for some other reason you were getting more output in the old truck) and adjusted your gain beyond the ability of the amp to try to get the same output sealed. You mentioned changing HU's so odds are your new HU has a higher output voltage than your old one.

Turn it down a bit or get a bigger amp.

the light is there to tell you to protect your bass pressure so turn the gain higher and crank the volume you must protect bass

Been doing it since the first day I installed them in the sealed box which was monday.

Check your power/fuse and ground connections... make sure they are clean and tight...

That is probably your problem...
I will definitely check them over again, but wouldnt there be a voltage drop when it does hit for the 2 or 3 seconds?

Did u change ure gain settings at all from previous setup? If its a specfic volume it cuts out at then its ure voice coils.
Does the amp get hot when this happens?
I ran the gain at 3 oclock in first setup. I cant turn it more than 10oclock now

Check your subs,,The voltage it fine, and gains turned down?? I had pretty much the same problem,as I was banging a pair of DVC4 at a 1ohm load, pretty much all day, and later n the evening the amp kept cutting out as being done here, and later found by playing each sub seperately/testing w amp power,I found my issue....Bad sub?? . Sounds like one of your subs bro..doesnt take much to check them..15-20 min tops without a DMM????IMO,I would also check the wiring for snug fit on subs, and amp?subs to the amp connections/pinched wires from amp to the subs???....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/slap.gif.87520e8ca8e90076ac30e777c0de5331.gif

Did the system bang for like 20 min, then cut out on you??Amp get hott??You may have wired one of subs wrong by accident???Im guilty of that one..Got in a hurry, didnt pay attention, and cost me an amp,and a sub!! Now i check twice:boink:

No it does it when I first crank the truck. Heres the weird part I just noticed. The subs will do fine with some songs but not others. For instance, I can listen to certain songs weather it be rap or rock as loud as I normally do, and it plays fine everytime. Then I listen to others and it starts cutting out. Kinda like the amp cant hit certain notes or somthing.

I check the subs, they show 1.9 ohms together

I expect your subs to "care" more about the notes your are playing.

I know that connecting just one sub will reduce the load so it wouldn't take your amp off the suspect list. However, if the amp cuts out on a single sub @4 ohms, but not the other, you will know you have a problem with the one sub.
