sub sounds like broken glass

my buddy somehow trade his kx600.1 that i sold him cheap,for a Digital designs 2200 whateve that is.its about 30 in long and has a volt meter and a fan that runs as soon as the turn on switch has power.what a joke,he was told it was 1800 watts,well its a 2 channel and i think 2200 stands for 200 x2.it has 2 40 amp fuses so 800 rms possibly.anyways i had built him a slot ported enclosure to mach 5 audio specs for a MAW 15 D4.3 cu,tuned to 32hz.he was fine on the kx,but on the da2200 he was clipping the sub to death,although it was louder,souded like pooh!lolafter 1 week he said somethings wong with the sub(wich he also bought from me with the kx600.1)so i checked it out.ya sounds like blown coils but sub still plays all notes and has perfect excursion and good suspension,but sounds like shattering glass under the dust cone.what shoud we expect to see,if anything when we decone this thing?whats making the glass breaking sound?

yup, sounds like the voice coil burned up and unraveled.
