Sub selection

I'm installing a system in my sons Taurus (don't laugh) and I'm looking for a little advise. I am using a JL 250w mono amp and I was considering running two R.F. 12's (P2d212). The subs are rated at 250 Watts RMS/500 Watts Max. With this particular amp am I better off just running one 12 or will I be better off running a second 12. I guess my question is, will the two 12's hit harder than a single. In my mind the two will hit harder, but now that i'm splitting the 250W amp between to speakers I was wondering if this is taking a step backwards.

Any input is appreciated.

and use one and power properly in a custom enclosure
