alright yesterday i just got done rigging my h/u together and today on my way to work the subs just cut out. the amp turns on, not in protect. i have no blown fuses and i did a conductivity test on my rca cables and their fine. i dont know how to test the rca outputs on the hu. speaker connection is solid.

my only idea is that the amp is not getting enough power, its reading out at 8.1v(i drive a 98 neon w/out big 3... hate my car) the amp is a 1200 power acoustik

any1 got an idea?

Most amps will go into protect when you get under 10V. My guess is your batt or alt are bad. What is the voltage when the car is running? Then unhook the batt and read the voltage off of it.

the amp does not go into protect... or the protect led is out... but anyway the voltage at battery when car is off batt reads 12.3, when the car is running, it reads 13.2 at the battery, when i take the voltage at the amp; it reads 8.1 both running and when ignition is on... ill prolly invest in a optima yellowtop when i get paid next friday, but im looking to see if there is any other way for me to get this working till then

ya i know 8.1 is horrid, i get a 4 volt drop from batt to amp...

and can some1 tell me how to test the rca outputs on the HU

Your batt seems fine atm, its your 4v drop that is the problem. Check your power/ground wire connections. Something is messed up between your batt and your amp. Also double check the fuses, you could have one thats half blown....

If you want to test the rca's on the amp, get an ipod or mp3 player and some phono-to-rca cables. You can then plug the mp3 player to the amp to see if you get sound.

alright, today at lunch i redid my power and ground connections, their both solid... w/ ignition off i get 12.3 at the amp, with ignition on... i get 4.1 and now my amp boots up in protect, i have no idea how getting a solid connection makes me drop another 4 volts...

i cant wait till i get paid fri, getting a yellowtop... any1 got any idea what i can do to get these working till then?

haha, no ****... the fact that its a neon doesnt mean a **** thing... electronics are electronics... so unless you have a suggestion to fix this.... please do me a favor, and stfu

well the power wire should be a no brainer....move your ground to another location and replace all fuses while the car is off.....thats what i would try...

if you have the power running from the batt straight to the amp and all fuses are brand new and a good ground theres no way your at 4.1 volts...lol thats like a RC car...just double check it all man...

haha truth, he drives a dodge too, fckin retard....

dodge isnt the problem.... well about 85% of them... so ya nm dodge *****

and all of my fuses look good, but i havnt changed a single one since i bought the car so ya prolly a partially blown fuse.... but my ground should be solid, i gotta check and make sure the paint is ground off at the spot of ground but other than that it should be fine.... i have a hard time finding a good ground in my car so, i really hope thats not it

Did you try unwiring your amp and test the voltage at the power wires? Maybe your amp is blown and is shorting out.....

Getting a good voltage reading does not mean good power transfer. You could read 13.8v out of a 24 AWG wire. Recheck your amplifier's ground and...

That would be a function of the harness, not the HU, I think. Have you looked into a Maestro or iData interface? i would check with crutchfield...

thanks DB, that definitely helps swallowing a $300 price tag 😂 these would essentially be running midbass for me too

What is your budget? With being exposed to Rain.. I would recommend looking at a marine grade SAS Bazooka for the sub stage
