Sub out on sony xplod stereo

I have a sony xplod stero with sub out connectors on the back, My question ( probably dumb ) is can i hook a sub up directly to the jack or do i have to go thru an amp. I dont care if its extermly loud or not, Just would like a little extra bass.

you can, but it's not good to severely under power a sub. and it's not going to sound good whatsoever.

under powering a sub will do nothing to it, there has never been a sub/speaker in the history of car audio that has been damaged do to too little power
