capacitors

The whole capacitor fad came to be 25 years ago because of two things spl competition rules that limited the number of batteries you could have but no limit was put on the number of caps. The second thing was greed on the part of companies that saw an opportunity to make a buck by pushing caps in their marketing to less experienced car audio buyers. It is still going on today with some companies. There have been other cons of this type one good one was monster cable. There were people using speaker wire the size of welding cable on home speakers. The shiny lighted caps you see now in car audio shops are still being sold to people who have no clue how little a cap can do. I am not saying they don’t or cant be of some use but the use is so limited and and the cases where they would be of help are very few. Capacitor technology has slightly improved over the last 25 years with lower esr values but those are not the caps you see in shops and even if they were they still would be a waste of money. Today’s car audio con plan is second and third batteries. People with stock alternators that don’t even compete and have no idea how many amps they need to run their systems are being told to get a second battery or a third battery.
