Sub Options

I am looking to add some new subs in my car and looking for some advice. Currently I have 2 kicker cvr 10's and ran with a kenwood 7203 and the sounds muddy and bad. The subs had been sitting in my basement and I wonder if mositure jacked them up. The amp isn't bridged and the gain is almost all the way down as the installer feared they would blow.

So I want to upgade without giving up too much trunk space. The kickers were in a sealed hatchback box.

I have been looking at Alpine Type r SWR-1042D (older version) 10's and 12's. Rockford Fosgate 12's P1

What is a good suggesion for sub while only spending a few hundred.

I found someone who would sell me his Alpine SWR-1042D 10's w/ box for $150. If they are in good shape is this a good deal or should I be looking for something else?

Thanks

-Josh

look at the threatcon 2 subs on sale right now for $99 each free ship, you might want to upgrade your sub amp too.

C2 Audio 12" Threatcon-2

for inexpensive amp you can get the audiopipe 1500 apsm most likley will run around 1krms for around $125

Audiopipe APSM-1500 1500 Watt Mono D Mini Amplifier : APSM1500 : VMInnovations.com

or for a little more $165 the apsm 2000, most likley will run around 1300w rms

Audiopipe APSM2000 2000W Mono D Mini Amplifier with Remote : VMInnovations.com

- That amp is weak sauce, set your gain properly and adjust your settings & filters to get what you can from what you already have 1st off... You are going to need a better amp before you even consider upgrading your subs anyway, and you really need to decide upon just how much trunk space you are willing to dedicate to your subs so you can figure out what subs and enclosure type will best suit you... If you want type R's, I would NOT go with those older ones... The new model Alpine SWR-10's are FAR SUPERIOR subs to those older counterparts...

I am willing to upgrade both subs and amp. what subs will sound good without giving up too much trunk space. I would like to go with a hatchback box again as I know this will take up far less trunk space.

I'm not set on type r's I just didn't know if that was a good price in some older model type r 10's or if I am better off going another direction

Thanks!

I am unfamiliar with the C2 Audio 12" Threatcon-2. Is there a sub type it would be comparable too?

Would 2 12's take up too much trunk space? I have a 2009 mazda 6 and would like to try and keep half the trunk space if possible.

To save on trunk space consider a single 10 or 12 in a bandpass enclosure. You'll do a lot better with one sub and spending the saved money on electrical/amps than just buying two subs and a cheap amp.

A good 8" woofer in a properly designed 6th order with about 125% of rated power will be impressive and, save your cargo space.

They are pretty much comparable to a Sundown SA-12, same power rating and the same enclosure recomendations. I have 2 in the trunk of a Dodge Neon, they pretty much takes up the whole trunk. My enclosure was built by DC Creations for 2 Sundown SA 12's.

The C2's are on sale right now for $99 shipped, you wont find a better sub that price! You can buy two of these for less than 1 SA12. I bought mine when they first came out for $99 a piece, my neighbor is so impressed with them he offered me $300 (used) without the box for them. These things get LOUD and sound great doing it!!

Here is mine. I have less money in these two with the enclosure than I would have had if I bought just two SA's without a enclosure.

if you want to just run 1 sub, you can get a threatcon 4 on sale right now for $199 and with the same amp i suggested but cone wise you might be better with 2 12's if you can fit them, these also sound good on sealed if you want to save trunk space

The price on the C2's seem great and a very interesting proposition. Has anyone ever put them in a sealed box so they don't take up the whole trunk?

I always heard that audiopipe was not a quality amp brand? Has that changed?

With a 6-8 week waiting period I have time to save up for a decent amp.

What should I be looking at?

C2's make a lot of sense. Im not looking to rattle out taillights so would 1 12 give me better sound than 2 12's from alpine, rockford fosgste etc. Or would dual 12 really be the way to go?
