sub near port in the box=doesnt matter?

if u put the sub right next the the port opening in the box, does it matter? or do a really have to put it the farthest i can from the port opening (the inside port in the box)

I mostly hear/see farthest from the port possible.

i had a type r 12 in a box with the magnet by the port opening and alot of noise, moved the sub away and it was fine. now i have my 15 right by the port opening and get no noise

im sure that answer depends alot on the install its used in....

shouldnt really run into problems as long as the port extends past the sub mounting depth and the sub is not firring intot he port itself
