Sub isn't working..?

i have an alpine type R 12inch (4ohm + 4ohm) sub and was using a sony xplod http://www.xplodsony.com/xplod/amplifiers/XM-2002GTR

my sub started shutting off and on about every minute then eventually got worse until it finally didnt work anymore.. my amps protect mode was on (which means the positive and negative wires are touching even though they werent) what could be the problem with my sub? i know its probably not blown.

it was your amp that was shutting off prolly, you blew your amp i'm guessing.

well i actually tried another sub on it and it worked fine for a while.. the sub actually shut down once soo i disconnected it b4 it started to damage it.. could my amp be burning sumthing up? its wired in the 2ohm setup but my amps manual says nothing about 2 ohm wiring

again, the amp is garbage.. ou could have clipped the sub to death.. How are your gains set??

i doubt you clipped the sub to death then as long as you didn't go crazy with the volume on the head unit. I think your amp is shit, maybe you blew a channel on it if it is a multi channel amp.

why do you think it killed your sub? did you hook it up to something else?

take the sub out and hook it up to a different audio source. If it works, its the amp.

you must have done something seriously wrong to blow a type R with that amp.

your amp is 4ohm stable, you ran it at 2ohm so you blew it, get a new amp.

that amp was shit btw, and its not your sub.

not to mention, you have a dual 4 ohm sub, wired too low for that amp. or have it wired to 8 ohms. not a good match with sub and amp in the first place.
