Sub isn't very loud, ways to make it hit harder?

Just wondering what gain setting you guys have it at...

I have a 12" JL W3V3 but it's not as loud as I've seen other people have gotten them in videos.

But the Subwoofer volume on my Alpine headunit is like half way up. Also the gain setting on the amp I have the sub at is just a little more than a 3/4 turn of the dial... is that too much?

The amp is a Rockford P450.4

The sub hits pretty hard but not crazy hard as I've seen in videos.

Get more power/subs....
Not what I mean, like I see videos of people with the same sub and similar amp and theirs actually shakes the car panels

You can't even hear mine from the outside when the doors are closed

The enclosure is sealed

go ported it will help...get rid of jl it will help.....add more power it will help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

port it and you could get up to about 10 more dbs at the tuning frequency, which is considered sounding twice as loud

even adding a 2nd sub and 2x the power usually can only get you up to about 6 more dbs

Well, you drive a 300zx if i'm not mistaken you as another Farkel from 3zc.com, hopefully i'm not.

I had a 10'' TC1k powered with about 4-500w and it didn't shake panels. It got loud as hell and couldn't hear it too well out of the car. It was the same way with my two RE8s.

If you want to shake shit, get a sub that can handle more power and is built for SPL.

I recently removed a 12w3v3 that I was using in a sealed enclosure. I was not that impressed with it, as in the correct size enclosure it had a high resonant frequency. If you want to use the same speaker I would try using a ported enclosure.

I would also recommend going ported. You will gain a few decibels from the same driver on the same power, because ported designs are more efficient than sealed.

Someone stated that you're only sending it 225 watts...if that is true, I think you can benefit from more power. I think that sub can handle much more than that...and your gains are already pretty high. Don't want to clip the amp.

Can you explain to me how a sealed enclosure has a resonant frequency? I know a decent amount about enclosures and speakers, but have not heard that. The resonant frequency refers to a speaker, not an enclosure, and is always constant, as far as I know. It is the frequency at which the coil's impedance is at maximum, and the force of the moving suspension is balanced with mass of the moving parts of the speaker. [edited to fix a terminology error]
