Sub Install Help

Hey, I'm in the middle of my install. Im putting in 2 cadence amps, a 12" type r and some pg rsd65cs comps. Right now I'm just trying to get the sub working first. I have the amps set up with a distribution block and when my head unit turns on, both amps are getting power (the LED power light comes on). However, the sub is not playing at all. What are some of the typical problems that may cause this. I double checked all my wiring... Sorry if this is something I should have searched for, wasn't sure what I should type in when searching. Thanks!

Yea...I took the sub out of the box and hooked it up directly to the sub. + to + and - to -...

You're amp isn't going into protect, is it? Subs are wired correctly to whichever ohm load you are looking for?

running out of options here....except bad equipment.

Yea I have the dual-2 ohm type r. So, I wired the sub to itself with the provided jumper cable, following the instructions. I took it right out of the box today...i would be really surprised if it was bad equipment. Could it be related to the fact that I have two amps running and my amp for the components is not hooked up to anything yet? Although I would assume they are independent.

As long as they aren't sharing a signal, which they shouldn't be, that shouldn't be the problem. Do you know for a fact that you have music playing? (Only asking because you don't have speakers hooked up yet, I am assuming.)

Yea, I didn't unhook any of the stock speakers so they are all playing music. The amp for the comps is all hooked up power wise, it's just not going to any speakers. Ugh...I'm stumped. Thanks for trying to help man...I might have to take it in somewhere. Is there a way to check if the sub is defective?

If you have a DMM, you can check to see what the load is at the terminals. Don't know what setting on the DMM, though. I assume there is an ohm symbol Ω on them somewhere.

Other than that, I don't know. There used to be a 9-volt battery trick to check subs. Something along the lines of touch the wires to see if the sub pops. Not sure, though.

You said you had 2 dual 2 ohm subs wired to 1 ohm each, are you sure those amps are stable at 1 ohm?

I suspect it is a wiring error as well.

Look at this diagram and follow the wiring for "2 DVC drivers with Voice Coils in Series / Parallel." This will give you a final 2 ohm load.

If you've been trying to connect just one or even both speakers + + and - - like you mentioned, it would most likely not work. Your amp is probably not 1 ohm stable and it definitely isn't .5 ohm stable. Giving us the model of your subs cadence amp would allow us to help you better.

actually it's just one sub. I have the Cadence TXA 3002 amp. I have it wired for 4 ohms. If my amp turns on (LED light comes on) can I rule out a remote wire, battery wire, and ground wire issue?

It could be your sub. If you don't have another sub amp to test it with, take it to a local shop. I'm sure they would do it for you. They'll probably help verify your wiring too.
