Sub Displacement

i just installed a type R 15 in my toyota tacoma truck..... ran it sealed to see how it would sound... box is 2.5 cu. when my windows are up,, sub volume is down... when my windows are down, sub volume is way up and pounds... have a rf amp @ 750 w rms to it... what could be the problem........

the inside of your vehicle acts as a box. when you roll down the window your "porting" the box. think of it as a sort of bandpass design, with the box being one part and the inside of the vehicle being the other part. this is common in a lot of vehicles. try turning the box in different directions. this is also the same reason that some people point their box to the back of the car rather than the front. i usually tell people that are asking which way to face their box to face it forward and listen to it, crack the trunk and see if you notice a difference. if you do, then turn it around so it is rear firing, if no difference, then leave it. it has to due with wave cancelation.

i could only design the box in this fashion so it would fit in my extra cab and i would still be able to sit properly.... it i design a vented/ported enclosure.. will this change the variables. or will it just stay the same... hey by the way...trixer... have any ideas on a good ported enclosure... ie show style for my truck... and thanks for the info....

the best thing i can suggest is up firing, long and slot port. place the sub and port as far apart as you can on the box. if you'd like, give me your deminsions and desire tuning freq. and i can help you out. (unlike most on here, i do my boxes the old fashion way, pencil and calculator.) a vented box should take care of most of the problem. this is usually more common in trucks than cars due to their smaller cab space. can't really promise anything, every vehicle is different, even ones of the same model as i have found out. you best bet is to just try it.
