sub cuts out/turns off. Is it the sub, amp, or stereo?

Just looking for some general off where to start looking. Not a lot of time to mess around with it and I'm not looking at my equipment right now. Best I can tell you of the setup is my amp is a 1000 watt, 10" bandpass, deck I have had for some time and a 2 farad cap because lights would sometimes dim at idle. 4 gage power from battery to amp. Same for ground.

Has been working awesome for at least 4 years solid. Could crank it up blasting hard rock heavy metal deep bass as long as I want and never fluttered. Now just recently my sub will just turn off at a certain volume, but will come back if I power off the stereo and back on. I took out the cap after reading how worthless they can actually be depending on your setup and it still does it.

Not sure my amp is going to safe mode or my deck is cutting out. Bass is still adjustable to the other speakers after the subs cuts out, but sub seems dead.

Just trying to figure out possibilities. Don't have a lot of money to invest in new equipment so I'm hoping it's just a connection or something cheap since it's been a good setup for me.

Any help would be appreciated.

For one, your ground shouldn't be ran to your battery, it needs to be no more than 3 feet from the amp. Also it sounds like your voltage is dropping to the point of clipping your amp, which is probably throwing it into a protection mode.

Actually my ground is only about 1.5 ft from the amp. Voltage is one of the things I started thinking about and was going to pickup an amp gauge to see if i could tell that's where is cutting out. I do need to check to make sure my ground is still solid too. Maybe it's starting to corrode.
