Sub cut out for 3 minutes

Ok i was playing late night tip and turned to 28 the highest i would go leaving a little head room before distortion kicks in, and the sub cuts out a few seconds after the bass lines kick in. I turn the music off... check all the wires, the gains are set a little more than half. my car wasnt started when i was playing it. Then i started the car and waited for the sub to start playing, 3 minutes later the sub starts to kick in, and now everything is fine.... Im thinking its the fuse at the battery becasue thats whats been giving me problems before, But im wondering if this could be my amp.

i would have to guess you're clipping the amp bad enough to put it into some type of protection.

if it's thermal protection the amp would turn back on automatically once it cools down.

Hey guys, instead of making a new thread, I searched this forums, and found something exactly like this problem. Both my Rockford subs are like, cutting out in the bassy parts, and I turned it off, checked connections, fine, and I tried it on again, works, but at high volumes it distorts and possibly may cut out again. I believe my amp gain is all the way up, but I have been doing it this way since the 3rd month of this year and its been fine. What gives?

PS: It gets cold out here now, so I dont know if the Thermal Protection has anything to do with it at all.

gains at full you're slowly killing your amp.

do it right:

http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164826

low pass should always be on (unless you want the subs to sound like crap)

if you have a ported box the subsonic filter should also always be on

bass boost should always be off

gain should not be all the way up unless you have the weakest pre-outs ever //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

set them with a DMM and you'll be at a reasonably safe level, and should not be damaging any of your equipment.

Oh, wow, I didnt know about the always on low-pass setting. I will be doing this tomorrow, along with turn the gain down some, and checking out the space in my trunk.

Do you think my amp is still ok? Its just started doing it this past week, only had the car used with the sound on about 3-4 days, 2 hours tops each day. And it rarely cut-out, only once, but it did distort sometimes at around 25 on the volume.

Do you think its ok, and/or will be ok once I fix it to low-pass and turn the gain down, but what about the bass boost, someone said it should be down/off? If I do that, it may not be as loud/low? I dont know. I have alot of learning to do.

I love this forums, because already you guys helped me out much.

you need to read a lot more!

bass boost should ALWAYS be off

low pass should ALWAYS be on

gain should be set with a DMM or better yet an O-scope

if you pre-outs are strong enough you could still be clipping with the gain all the way down! (technically it's possible, but almost never would happen)

point is, even if you turn it down to half way, that could still be too high

Alright, thanks for that main advice. Im not entirely sure, but having it on low-pass would definitely give me more low-sounding bass compared to all-pass correct? I had it on all-pass bc it gave me SQ for the highs and lows together, since I have 4 speakers and only 1 2-channel amp, so it gets hard to hear the highs and mids.

Another question, should my 2nd amp, the 2-channel BOSS Chaos (shitty, I know) run with the rca cables from the sub/mono amp for the rockfords, or directly from the head unit, like I have now? Both my amps currently are running rca's to the headunit, not using the pass-thru for the 2nd amp rca's. Any idea?

Thanks.
