Sub bottoming out or box issue?

So a box leak would cause this sound too? Is it making it because the sub is bottoming out? I messed with all my settings on amp/head unit earlier and it didnt make any difference. I guess the only thing to try is to build a new box.

yea man.. I have my subs in a completely different box and it still makes the tap noise although not as bad I can tell something has prolly been damaged a little.

Id like to here someone with more experiance with this subj. too. I don't like my sub doin this either although I can't really hear it with music playing it still bothers me. Knowing I wont get much for these subs when I decide to sell em do to them being svc,...

 
are your tinsel leads sewn in to your spiders ? or are they just floating inbetween the cone and the terminal posts ?

my old style re sx does NOT have sewn tinsles and they put that little round felt pad on the underside of my cone to help control the sound of tinsel slap during good excursion... to solve this issue I had - I used a box on the smaller side to help the air spring of the box psyicly not be that capable of producing max excursion at and above tuning. using a smaller box also alows slightly higher power capabilitys usualy...
