Just wondering how close to the edges a sub cutout can be. I have a 16" trunk opening and a 15" sub. Is a .5" inch of wood on each side of the sub good enough for mounting?

you should be fine, your cut out will actually be like 13.75 or something like that.

thanks, i was more concerned about the screws being close to the edge and cracking the wood

well look at it ilke you'll be screwing into the top and bottom pieces so your screw will be in straight wood, not hanigng out on the end.

yea will has had a couple of those, my buddys 18 box was 18.5" across the baffle and it worked fine.

It won't be an issue. For a 15", the cutout will be 14" or VERY slightly more if it is an over sized 15".
