Stupidest Thing You Have Ever Heard When Talking With Someone About Car Audio?

well one is that my brother wired his hu up i think the first time ever for him well his jimmy apparently didn't have a 12v ignition wire to turn on the hu when key is on and some how there was a wire to his parking lights that was i think yellow and he wired it to that he did not know this and he asked me to come out and look at his wiring and asked me why his cd player only worked when he had his lights on and as you would know i turn the lights off the cd player goes off turn lights on the cd player comes on lmao. so i take those wires apart for him ran him a 12v ign wire wired it up it worked i went back into the house laughing so hard inside

i had some slow mo mf'r at work ask me how many ohms i had.. i said, "1 i guess" talking about the sub and he looked at me like i needed at least 10 ???

some dude that used to walk around my neighborhood saw me in the trunk once and started telling me about his civic hatchback with 6 memphis 15's that went through windows like gas. but then my not very loud (yet) single 15" blew his mind.

I had to explain to the three guys working in the local Futureshop (basically a Best Buy) that as you lower impedance your power levels go up. It was like they never heard of anything other than svc 4 ohm speakers. They were also trying to tell me back when I was just looking for some reasonable 6.5's they steered me to the Infinity Kappa 62.7i which I liked the sound of but they are 2 ohm speakers and I only wanted to run it off my head unit and I told them that I would need to run them off an amp.

I was at my unlces house for thanksgiving, and my Uncles girlfriends nephew was talking about how he works in an audio shop. So I aksed him about some prices on subs, and I mentioned L7's and he goes "they arent even good" so I ask what he reccommends and he tells me to follow him to his truck. He pops the back and says " these are the best subs out" He had two oldschool Compvr's. Not very funny but I just like how he thought he knew everything.

Just today at work I was talking to some coworkers about windows shattering due to an audio system. I was then told by a wise coworker of mine (lawl) that a subwoofer as "big as a car" was built and put into a stock SUV. Supposedly, this subwoofer hit over 300db's and no windows in the SUV even cracked, nonetheless shattered.

So obviously they've heard of other impedances.

One of my friends told me that there is a frequency that is illegal to play. He didn't say why it was illegal, and he didn't have any clue what it was, but he truly believed that there is a note which is actually illegal to play.

Apparently one of his friends from work told him all about this. He is always talking about how badass his friend's system is, and how he gets all this new equipment in every day. He has 2 12'' xplods in sealed box with maybe 250W a piece. I rode in his car once and after all the hype, it was hard to keep from laughing.

Exactly what I thought.

He keeps coming to me for help installing his system. He's got a junky neon, I already helped him put a cheap *** Dual head unit in, and then he goes out and buys those Dual 2-way speakers from wal-mart with the blue lights on them lol. He also started budgeting for the same light up blue dual crap, only in the subwoofer variety, before I finally realized what he was doing and put a stop to it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Not all amplifiers produce more power when presented with a lower impedance, I believe some of the crown made JBL BPx amplifiers produce less power at 1ohm than 4 though I dont know if thats because of a highly regulated power supply. I'm pretty sure Infinities 2ohm model speakers meter at 2ohms so their nominal impedance is higher, probably closer to 3ohms than 2, so it might not always be an issue when using a HU to power them.

Thanks for the thread, I liked reading these.
