Speaker Question

I have now determined why my speakers are not working. At first i thought that the headunit was not working properly.

I found out that my factory speakers were powered by a factory amp.

I have a mtx 1004 amp and would like to know how can i hook up my speakers to that amp.

Replacing the factory amp will cost me $200 and i will not do such thing.

Its a 1994 ls400. I'm trying to locate the audio diagram for the car on clublexus.com

I just don't know where to start and lost so any help would be appreciate it.

THanks in advance.

When removing the factory amp, you will have to figure out which wires are running to which speaker. Use either a 9 volt battery or find a wiring diagram. When you touch the speaker leads +/- on the battery, it will make a buzzing sound.

Yeah-- no.

Do you have your stock HU or an aftermarket one?

I don't have the factory amp anymore thats why i'm having to use an aftermarket amp. The factory amp was runned by the factory headunit and i'm still running the factory hu.

I'm trying to come up with some conclusions how its hooked up from the hu to the factory amp. Because i will have to turn that harness to rca plugs if i want to hook it up to an aftermarket amp but i don't know where to start.

I'll make a paint drawing and upload it to show you guys what i'm talking about.

I could be wrong on my previous comment about the battery, but I know that there is something you can use to touch the speaker leads on, and it will make a buzzing sound. Which in essence helps you to figure out what speaker it is that you are tampering with.

I have the stock hu.

At the beginning of changing out my audio, I'm just wanting to get it going w/o major expense even though i'll be upgrading later but not now. The economy is not going too well for me.

When i first bought the car, my audio has no sound at all.

I checked the fuse and they were fine plus the hu turns on and everything so i know that its not the factory car thief thing.

I also notice that the cd changer was missing so i said to myself that it could have been that but then thought about it some more. Since the only thing that was missing is the cd changer, am/fm, tape player should work fine. But there is still no sound.

So searched online and found out that my system has a factory amp that powers the speakers and the factory sub.

I went to look for it in the trunk and notice that it is missing too.

So what i'm doing now is trying to hook up my mtx amp to see if that is indeed the problem. If it is then i'll know what my next step is.
