I have 6 X 9 memphis coaxial speakers installed in the rear deck of my dodge stratus in the trunk, along with two 5500 12" mtx subs both putting out 300 watts RMS each with my amp. A local installer reccommended that I have them install foam speaker protection around the 6 X 9's because he claims the subs will slowly wear down the speakers because they aren't built to take that kind of air pressure being pushed around. Is this guy at the shop being honest or just trying to get $30 from me to put some kind of foam around my speakers?
