Speaker mounting

This may sound like a dumb question, but oh well.....

Is it okay to mount a speaker on a door panel instead of the door frame? Would it be better to mount it on the door frame or door panel? Considering, as long as I seal the front off from the rear. Would I still need to deaden the door?

If I need to, I can reinforce the door with some fiberglass, or even make a fiberglass door pod when it warms up outside.

Yes its okay if its properly supported (doorpod not onto the plastic). Personally, I would mount it to the metal on a/some birch plywood spacer(s). Also, yes I would still suggest deadening your doors. I mean in some sense, you can't isolate the front of your speakers from the rear without deadening the inside door skin.

The front speakers in my 05 f150 are mounted to the plastic door panel. I plan on mounting my new germs directly to the door on mdf spacers.
Trust me. I would do it that way if i could.

I have NO room between where the woofer would be and the door panel.

Also, the mounting depth is at most 2.25 inches in that spot. If my speaker were too deep it would hit the window or prevent the window from going down all the way.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I might do a combo of the two. Mount it to the door frame on a adaptor bracket and make a whole in the door panel, using fiberglass to dress it up some.....

That's what I had to do with my install. Turned out okay, but is more difficult then I had expected. I guess I just didn't quite have a precise idea of what I wanted it to look like when I started. Good luck with your install, if you know what you want (and have some fiberglass experience) you should be good.

Yeah, I won't be doing this for a while.

I'm accumulating money while I'm waiting for it to get warm out.....

Thanks for the help.
