Speaker dilema...

My front driver side stock componet speakers are blown. I went to a chevy dealer to see how much it was goign to cost to replace them, and they quoted me $100 dollars for 1 door not including the price of the speakers, so Im not going to do that. I have 2 12" type-r subs runnning off of a T10001bd amp. I do not have enough money to buy another amp to power component speakers, nor enough money to make an upgrade to my electrical system (aka new battery/alternator), so I cant run component speakers... Now to my actualy question. What coaxials would you recomend to reaplace my front component speakers? I dont really want to spend more than $150 on them. Sorry about the short novel but any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks

I've run JBL GTO's off HU power and they sounded good and got pretty loud.

I've also heard the REV's do well off HU power, but I've only run mine amped.

You could also look into some PG comps and some other low $$$ sets to replace your factory stuff.

Look for speakers with the highest dB efficiency rating as they'll get louder off low power.

Errmm...I don't know if that quite the direction I'd have taken with that one but okay.

As far as more economy-oriented replacements what kind of power are we actually talking about here?

Is it the OEM headunit as well - so maybe 10w a channel or so?

Or are we talking an aftermarket HU with a whopping 18w or so usable per channel?

Blaupunkt's Velocity-series gear seems to be for the budget-minded as well as getting decent reviews. $130/shipped for authorized retail on the 6.5" set so I'd imagine they're much cheaper like on eBay or the like.

Don't know how well they like only HU power, though...

Rev-series Pioneer coaxs really might be your best bet as far as bang for the buck. Components really might be best saved for when you can adequately power them. Sure they'll technically work off of the HU alone but they'll be starving.

I have a Pioneer 6900UB in place of my factory HU. How is the mid-bass on those pioneers? What about Boston Acoustics S65RC?

my dad has some premier pioneer coaxil speakers runnin off a pioneer HU and the mid-bass is pretty good you'd prolly be a lil surprised with the midbass from those speakers, and there not even the REVs, i would take the Revs over what my dad has

id also consider the new Polk db series 6.5 coaxils are really nice too with good highs, clarity and decent midbass IMO, and they retail brand new for $99, and im sure u could even find em cheaper online lol

Even the regular Pioneer 4 way 6.5" coax will sound good.

Yep, those will work nicely or the REVs above. And they'll really shine if you get an amp to them in the future when time and money permits.

Also consider the Phoenix Gold RSd65cs components. They won't be amazing off HU power, but like I said, when time and money permits, you can put an amp to them later on.

If they won't give you the output you're wanting, then you can always turn your sub stage down so it blends.

You can leave them in there, just unhook them. You might run in to some problems trying to wire up tweeters and coaxs on the same channels.

One question though: Does your car have a factory amp that is still in use?
