some may, some don't, we tool everything...and I didn't call them a low end, I mean 'smaller' company....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
Nah, I was talking about you...I was talking about whoever the original poster talked to //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

That guy wants you to belive he knows a thing or 2. Obviously he is mistaken and took you on a little trip with him. To down SS based on a visual assumtion is absurd.
not questioning you at all, but are you 100% sure those basket/motor structures are not used on anything other than SS?

cool, cool...but you are correct, you can walk into most 'build houses' and ask I want that motor, that basket, that cone and my dustcap, and pronto, have your woofer...

I'm sure they are. But to call it low end, and to look else where is absurd. You are right that most small companys use other/discontinued parts. SS has proven to be worth every penny. And I would hate for a person to be mislead by some guy with no experience with the said company.

true, but he is comparing what he sales to what has a long term history, versus just now seeing a new driver by a company he's never heard of, just basing his personal opinions, whilel granted he is close minded, because of just what he has seen and sold over years, does not mean, that's all there is, period.

Just because a company doesn't custom tool all of their parts, it certainly does not make them "low end".

It's common knowledge that the SS drivers are slightly modified TC Sounds drivers...who are very prominent in the industry as far as a buildhouse, and they build the subwoofers for many mainstream companies (who also use TC Sounds "standard" line of drivers), such as Eclipse.

Ask anybody who's had experience with them......the TC2+ (Rl-i) and TC9 (Rl-p) and very nice drivers, both in sound quality and output potential.

Calling them lowend, or the practice of using a buildhouses pre-designed and proven subwoofer products "lowend" is assinine.

Precisely...

It's also common knowledge that SS was created to sell off TC sounds woofer, kind of like TC's house brand. They just picked up steam, and have stuck around so far... so they have their own modified lines...

How can I be sure about a sub's sound be reading about it?

Do you guys understand where I am right now? He's been in the industry for probably over a decade, - installing no less, but around SPECIFIC subs. You guys have also been in car audio for awhile, but might still not have quite he eye he does. When you think about it, both opinions/reviews from you guys and from him boil down to one thing: words. Words coming from people giving an opinion of a sound, does not acurately give me a description of the sound.

Even if there was ONE individual that listened to 20 different subs on the same song, powering all of them as they should for optimal performance, and rating all of them on a very specific and in depth scale, I still wouldn't know how they would sound to *me*!!

Now throw in the fact that half of you (the guy I talked to included) have listened to a few of the 20 subs each, hearing them on different songs, in different enclosures, with varying degrees of power given to them, and I get an even less clear picture of what to believe.

Conclusion:

I hate being in a ghetto, small *** town where nothing happens, and I'm not going to make any decisions till I travel somewhere and visit an SPL show. No, the SPL competition part won't help me decide.. but I'm sure there's one or two people (lol) who have regular subs that I could listen to.

There was the great subwoofer showdown; If you're that concerned about which subwoofer to buy, check that one out.

Somebody post the link, I don't have it on me.

Thanks! I'll definatelly look into that, but you'd be living under a rock if you didn't know that the sub scene has been exploding recently.. Diyma, RE, Kicker... new stuff all over the place. Partly because I'm a web developer/computer guy, keeping up with the times and latest technology is important to me!

The great 8 challenge??? Helpful if you want 8's sure. But not helpful any other time.

Even if there was ONE individual that listened to 20 different subs on the same song, powering all of them as they should for optimal performance, and rating all of them on a very specific and in depth scale, I still wouldn't know how they would sound to *me*!!
Seriously then why ask. If all you're going to say is, words are not helpful, and there are a lot of different opinions. Then why bother asking.

If you can't form a decision based on countless reviews. Maybe hands on would be a better choice for you.

Just know that Sound Splinter is a great company. Ran by an awesome individual, with great quality affordable products. It would be a shame to listen to your "experienced" installer about a company he has no experience with.

I'm not sure what subwoofers you are comparing, since I don't believe that was mentioned anywhere.

But I can tell you with 100% certainty that the installers description of Soundsplinter being "low end" is as inaccurate of a description as is humanly possible. His assessment that SS "bought a companies design once the copyright (it's not a copyright, it's a patent...copyrights cover written works, patents cover designs.....but, whatever) is no longer good" is likewise incorrect. TC Sounds designed their standard line-up of products (which, again, are likewise used by many mass market companies such as Eclipse) for the sole purpose of having a tested, researched, developed and proven design to sell to their (TC Sounds) customers to save in time and cost to that customer while still providing an excellent design and great performing subwoofer, which saves everybody money in the end...including you, the end consumer.

I don't care how long your installer friend and been an installer and in the industry...in this instance, he's talking out of his *** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Oh, I won't be counting them out.. He knows I take everything I read/hear with a grain of salt.. including what he has to say. I just wanted to get some other opinions from people more experienced with that product than he is.

Honestly, he has me a bit scared on *where* these subs are manufactured...

foreign as opposed to locally in the US.

EDIT: Squeak, that's the problem.. even *I* don't know what subs I'm comparing!! lol. I'm definately looking at the RE line, the SS line, and the DI line, but what about all the others that I don't know about that might be better for me? I don't even know about those.

I'm seriously thinking about going with something 900-1500 rms with good SQ but great SPL
