Something I heard about soundsplinters..

I was talking to a local sound shop guy about subs, and he knows that I take whatever I hear with a grain of salt, but like to get as much info as possible from all sources.

He's been installing in the industry for quite awhile and owns the shop (probably the most popular shop in the town of the University of Illinois, so he get's a lot of business). We shot the shit about various subs... rockfords, JL, REs, Memphis... and I asked him about SS. He hadn't heard of SS, mostly because he specializes in what his own shop sells.. so I sent him a link to the page.

This was his response on SS (sorry about the caps.. not my doing):

I CHECKED OUT THOSE SUBS, THEY SEEM TO BE OKAY. I KNOW THE BASKET AND MAGNET HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR MANY YEARS. THIS LETS ME KNOW THAT THIS WOOFER WAS NOT MADE BY THAT COMPANY, BUT PURCHASED FROM SOMEONE ELSE. ALOT OF LOW END MANUFACTURERS DO THIS TO SAVE COST OF RESEARCH AND DESIGN. IMO its the best sounding sub for the money really, hard pressed to find a better sounding 15 for 250.00, but they definately are not mainstream

I bought mine just based on reviews, over the years I have owned everything and wanted something different. I got a great deal on mine slightly used. Mine is sealed in a trunk and it hurts my ears as well as sounds good. You wouldnt be disappointed

But here's the deal, I bet he's 100% true. Most smaller companies cannot afford to do custom tooling, which can lead literally into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Most smaller ?(just starting) companies will use a motor and basket that has already been tooled up, and create 'soft parts' and a dust cap with their own logo's. It's nothing out of the norm really, you see it happen everyday.
