it's a kicker dx1000.1 and a pioneer 300 watt 4 channel amp and everything sounded great until the bass hit and my car pretty much turned off. i figured out the problem was a bad ground so i fixed the ground and it was working but it still dimmed my lights a lot and the sub was distorting. will a capacitor fix this? because i really would not like it if the car turned off again when i was at a stoplight. i can't get a new battery or alternator it's too expensive so will any kind of cap work? or any suggestions would be accepted. thanks

Well, you have a power hunger amp, and needs to be fed.If you dont have the money to buy a second hand battery, or refub, then yes you can try a cap, but may not last as long or be as suffecient as a second battery source.Id recommend a second battery, even a small one at that. But, a cap is no gaurantee either, or a second battery with the power needed for that one big amp alone. You can also try doing the big 3, in which there is a thread for it, that is recommended for any vehicle with or without a stereo system in general.About all I can recommend to you, as my opinion.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/santa.gif.e1ec9cf2e0a0dd232ad35aa594a126d0.gif

Also sounds like you're clipping the dx1000 pretty hard. Turn your gain down some before you fry your amp or subs. Also, learn to set the gains on your amps.

yeah i was hoping not to have to get another battery. well the gains were set fine on my kicker amp my lights didn't even dim on it but then when i added the speaker amp it couldn't take it at all. the dx1000 wasn't clipped at all it was actually set fine. also they were sharing a ground cable so that could also have been the problem. the pioneer is a gm 4000f which is pretty old and i'm assuming not efficient at all because the kicker was doing fine until pioneer was added. so will a cap be pretty muc pointless?

i feel like it should be able to handle ~1200 watts though without being such a problem. the gains were set correctly and everything i'm just hoping it was the ground wire that was really causing all the problems. could the ground wire be the main problem?

I recommend a second battery..it doesnt have to be any name brand, or a $200 battery man,But i wouldnt put a cap in though that a battery can do so much better for you,Just another battery source will help out quite a bit, especially doing the big 3 also.My opinion.

alright so i fixed the ground and everything is actually working fine now it wasn't turning off or anything. but now the sub sounds more distorted could this be from less power going to it? i turned the gain down more and its not loud now but could a capacitor help that then? i really don't want to have to get another battery and idk if i could do the big 3

Just another battery will be better man.Watch the you tube video on the big 3, its easy, and will even help your vehicle alone.May have to play with your settings a bit to get the muzzled sound out at your settings.
