so how overrated are hifonics amps?

yeah, thats how you set your gains :p maybe you should learn that before hooking up your amp...
A DMM measures voltage, not wattage. You can not use just a simple DMM to determine how much continuous power your amplifier is capable of outputting with reasonable distortion.

Maybe you should learn that before giving advice to others //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i didn't mean it directly measures wattage, but you can use it to determine the wattage. i meant that he can use Sqrt(Power*Resistance) = Voltage to determine wattage. he didn't ask about distortion, just "can a DMM measure wattage?" i didn't think of it that way. and i was drunk when i typed that and i don't remember much about when i typed it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hifonics is extremely over rated. And in order to drive near rated output, high distortion levels are reached. And no one in their right mind would listen to a clipped signal right.

I say from experience, If you wait and purchase a decent quality amp. It would be well worth it.

I would only get Hifonics if you absolutely could not afford anything else. And needed a decent "budget" amp. Just don't expect anywhere near the rated output levels.

well if i get the 2000 watt amp, i would be safe in saying that i can get 1600 out of it? thats what i am shooting for. and yeah, i'm that broke. no job + college loans = hard to save money.

No one can say without getting one tested. From the output power of the bx1500. I would assume the bx2000 would produce 1300-1500 watts unclipped.

But no way to be 100% sure with out a bench test.

yeah, i have an irrational hated towards the new fosgate amps. i would never get one and thats that :p maybe i'll wait for an HCCA fan sale...
That's cool. If you would rather run a overrated paper wieght, rather than a true power house. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/waycrazy.gif.f4a380c3f94043939fd369defd9e6be2.gif

Enjoy the Hifonics. I ran 2 and they worked fine.

it's funny how a year, year and a half ago Hifonics amps were the shiz. Everyone wanted one. They look pretty good, great power for the cost, nice set of featuers, "accurately" rated etc.

Then one guy posts a bench test showing his 1500D to be 15% over-rated and now they're "over-rated paperweights".

That's just funny

Trigger - Exactly what would you expect the real-world difference between 1300 and 1500w to be??

The 2000D ought to be around 1700w assuming 15% is somewhat consistent across the board on the old Hf's.

Less than 1db. But I find spending my money on a better product to be sufficient enough of a reason. I still think they are great budget amps. But they are poorly built/designed. So I now recommend putting out another $100 to purchase a better product.

Don't get me wrong. I still think they are a decent choice for the person on a tight budget.

I just bought a BXi2006D to power two type-x's, and for under 400 bucks shipped, I'm personally not gonna worry about losing a couple hundred watts of power.

IMO, they seem like fantastic amps for the $$. If you've got an application where you NEED a said amount of power, i'd spend the extra $$, but for my car, a couple hundred watts isn't going to keep me up at night.

I'm excited about the new amp. It looks great, and if it sounds good, then that'll seal the deal.
