SK-1500.1 jumps into protect at high volume

Hmm? It seems odd how it all happened. I put my gains up to clamped 1500watts power, it lasted maybe 2-3 hours of playtime before it kicked off. Once it kicked off, it did it ever since at any high volume regardless of gain setting
I don't really know how the protection circuit works in an amp but I know you can hear an audible click when they go in/out of protect, it makes me wonder if it's like a breaker once they have been tripped they sometimes are more sensitive to being tripped again. I wonder if the protection in an amp can go bad like a breaker? If so it should be a cheap fix for you.

Since ive had this on day one it would click loudly when it turned on and off normally. The click was loud enough to be heard through the trunk if you paid attention. I cant hear it when it kicks off due the bass being so loud

Im hoping Amp Medics know what they are doing in finding the issue and fixing it. Or at least can determine *if* the amp is bad or not. I dont think it needs open-heart surgery or anything. Im really banking on the repair not going over $60 before return shipping

My friend did the wiring for me back in the day. All the terminals like the one i posted a pic of were like that. They are 8GA terminals on 4GA wire. That probably is what did it in. Do you think my amplifier is still broken or was it just the wiring... or a combination of both?

Possibly a combo of both. Then again the amp could possibly be at fault too, not ruling that out at all. Steve will know for sure. Has he got back with you on anything yet?

The amp hasnt gotten to him yet. USPS says tomorrow is dropoff date. If the amplifier is not bad, im hoping he could send it out same day or Friday so i could get it back ASAP. On the upside this has given me time to go over all the wires and redo everything. I'm not rushed since i dont have an amplifier so im doing all the connections proper, and im tidying up by zip tying and all that. Ramble Ramble Ramble >_

sounds good man keep us informed!

sounds like when you stepped up the output, you eventually starved the amp, probably took a couple of hours of riding around playing hard for the battery voltage to drop low enough to shut it down. Are you using a deep cycle AGM as your primary battery, or a regular flooded starting battery? the AGM's are more efficeint, which is why they are used in higher powered systems. If you have a regular starting battery, or a combination of the two if you are running 2 batts, I bet your battery is going bad. Have you checked the resting voltage with the engine off to see if it is lower than it should be? Another thing to consider, once an amp shuts down, it is kinda like a breaker. Once tripped, it may not take as much abuse before the next time it trips.

I use Waze on my 1500 NEX. The one time I did have issues I had to delete weblink and redownload it. I have location to "while using" on weblink app.

This would go a long way to alleviating the dimming issue, up to around 4000 watts. It can handle 100A continuous and up to 285A 7 second burst...

Well, there is always a bypass that can be McGuyvered. So next time you want to tackle that task, post it. We can help.

I had two Skar amps (4ch & a monoblock) go bad within a year. Post #2 is an excellent recommendation.
