Should I use this box or build one?

I have a box built by JL audio for my W0. It looks like this except it only had my 1 W0 in it:

I calculated that the box is about 1.3 ish cu ft. It is pretty heavy and it is nice and meaty. They say that they use the highest quality MDF. In my opinion it is a well constructed box but should I attempt to build my own box to house my brand new 12 RL-P or use the JL one.

build an enclosure designed for that particular sub and to your particular taste of music. some subs are designed for sealed enclosures and some for ported, it depends on the EBP of the sub. figure what enclosure type, then volume and tuning if ported is best for that sub, then build it to fit your car. or configuration.

thats the best way to go, buying an enclosure without knowing how the sub is going to perform in that enclosure is like gamblin, it could or may not work.

how the enclosure is build and how is it designed are two diffrent things a crappy sounding enclosure can be build solid, but the fact is that the sub is going to sound like *** in it. same goes for a well designed enclosure, it will sound good but it could break apart.

there are a couple of people on this forum that can design and build you an enclosure for that sub, for a decent price and it will get every bit of bass out of that sub.
