Should i spend more on amp or sub?

I have about $400 to spend on an amp and sub(s). I was thinking a diamond audio D3600.1 and 1 type r but now i think it might be better to get a factory refurbished directed 1500 or a factory refurbished viper 1200.1 with a more expensive sub. What do you think?

Spend the majority of your money on your sub, as long as you leave yourself enough left over to buy an adequately sized amplifier.

x2, having an underpowered behemoth is better- you can always easily upgrade with a bigger amp.

My 12's cost ~ as much as my amp. It's really entirely up to you.

It's not really what you "should" spend -- it's what you can. (I hope that makes some sorta sense)

I spent $350 for my sub amp, and about $170 for both my subs.

But you have to take into consideration the value of my subwoofers -- MSRP'ed at about $300 per.

Don't limit yourself by spending more on any particular one, or spending a particular amount of money, but rather open yourself up to all different options and start scouring around for deals. It's not a rare thing for a subwoofer with a $500 price tag to resell for around half of it's original value.
