Should i pay the pros $160, or is it not that hard to do

I was wondering, i can get my amp setup to my sub properly for $160 by the pros, mabey a bit lower, i already ran the wire, and im sure i can mount it to the fiberglass box fine, im just nto sure how how to set the gains and such, i know to get a tone, and turn it up until destortion, etc, but im not sure how i run it at 1 ohm, will it autmaticly do that or what, stuff like that, small little details, does anyone have any helpful hints, specificly on how to set what ohm i want to run it at and such, its just 1 amp going to 1 sub

 
To run it at one ohm, you have to wire your sub in a ertain way. It has to be a dvc 2ohm sub or a svc 1ohm or dvc .5ohm sub. And $160 is outrageious. Reading a little while can get it done for free minus a muultimeter.

 
Yeah, i like to do it all myself, or at least learn as much as possable, this is my first setup, and i even wanted to try my hand at fiberglassing the box, but it was pretty detialed, and wasnt a good first time project with lots of curves, and slants and such.

But so far, ive done everything from running the wire, installing the head unit, putting in the new custom glassed kicks with the cdts, and some other small things like mounting the changer, i am trying to do as much as i can, i just didnt really know how to wire this up.

So basicly, i want it at 1 ohm, so i just have one wire going to the neg, and one to the pos. like on the crutchfield site?

As for the gain, am i correct on that, just turn it up, until i start to hear distortion? Its a 1,200 watt amp on a 800 watt rms sub, but many people have been giving it 1,400+ so i thought i should be fine with a properly sized box, its a 15" avalanche

 
set the gain using the gain setting tutorial. its really quite simple.

just read, and follow the directions. not hard to do at all man. four wires and eight screws, and 10 minutes with the gain is not worth anything over $25 imo.

 
lord, if you wire the coils in parallel then the amp will automaticly see a 1 ohm load.

To set gains get a 50 hz, 0db test tone. Disconnect your sub. figure out how many volts you need at th speaker terminals. (RMS wattage you want to run to the sub X 1 (ohm) = _______, get the square root of that number, and that will be the voltage you want.)

Put all H/U settings to zero then set your HU to the maximum volume you are going to use (not max the H/U has because there will likely be clipping from the H/u @ that volume level).

Get a Digital Multimeter, set it to AC voltage and stick the probes on the speaker terminals. Play the tone and turn the gain up and/or down till you get the desired voltage.

Turn everything off, hook up the sub, and NEVER, EVER turn the gain up any higher.

And THAT, is $160 worth of "pro" installation right there. It takes literally 15minutes if you are unexperienced.
