Should I Keep my Type R's or get something else?

Right now I have 2 12" Alpine Type R's (SWR-1242D) in a sealed enclosure running off of a Alpine PDX-1.1000 amp. I'm using my stock head unit from my 98' Audi A4, so the source is from a line output converter.

Now if I were to get two of these (REF-TM12.2 - 12" Tidal Audio Subwoofer Dual 2 Ohm) in a sealed enclosure, would it be an overall upgrade or downgrade?

I can't post links yet since I just joined but you can find them on woofersetc if you want to look at the specs.

I listen mainly to rock music and I heard that these speakers are exactly the same as the Image Dynamics ID series. And Image Dynamics has a good rep for SQ.

Would there be a noticeable difference between the two setups?

Do I really need two? (I like to keep my car light //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif )

Other recommendations will also be appreciated.

What r u lookin for and how much u tryin to spend ? u can step those type r to type x and be blown away. I was with 1 10 on a 400 watt alp amp I have ppl wanting me to prove what I had so.... Yeah I'm biased but at least its toward a good brand and product

What about what I have vs 2 Sundown Audio E8v2 or 1 Sundown Audio SA-12. I head good things about Sundown here, but I'm not sure if they are SQ or a SPL subs.

You can try the DD or FI subs. Iv owned 2 type R's 10's and then upgraded to a 12" FI Q and i loved the difference. the Q gave the same SQ but also provided more loudness.

If you have the tools you could remake a new box for those alpines and have one of the guys here make the design for you and most likely ull be plenty happy the way it sounds.

More SQL then SPL.

As for the OP, try a properly built ported enclosure. You may be surprised and just keep what you have. I don't see a couple 8s or a single driver making a large enough difference to buy them.

If you upgrade to two better subs and more power it will make a difference. It all depends on what you want to do and what you want from your system.
