should i have the sub facing up or back?

i was going to have ls2poweredgoat build me a box with port and sub facing back BUT i was thinking should i have the sub up port back so i can have the box a little shorter and wider or just leave it?

its going in a trunk with limited space, only 39"wide. 16"tall, and 15" deep the plan was to build the box 38"wide, 15"tall, and 15" deep now the trunk slopes down as it go towordes the taillights so i cant have to box to tall as it gets deeper i was kind of thinking should i try and change the plans to have it 10" deep for the top of the box and like 20" deep for the bottom and have the sub slanted or just shorten the box and have the sub up port back?what would you guys do?

I can't agree with you. The problem with subs up port back in a trunk is that, unless it's mounted right on the rear shelf, it's not really getting any gain from it. Subs back / port back allows for a "doppler" sort of effect off the rear. Normally it increases output.

But the only way to really know is test.

Personally, I like subs firing into the cabin with the cabin sealed off from the trunk, with port through rear deck. It's how the real pros do it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

anyone that has a 12" solo x with a 4.5 cuft ported box that did tests like that?

I've only seen subs and port back in trunk cars, unless they had fold down seats, then I've seen a few systems that had the subs and port forward through the opening.

I dont know if this will help but when i had my 4 cvr's I had them sub up port up. I faced the box toward the tailights, sub back port back, and it was noticably louder. Might depend on the car though.

well i can tack my back seat off i ushually do that when i have a system in my car to get the bass thru and so the trunk doesnt get that hot. when i had my old system 2 12" off 500rms each in a sealed box it wouldnt make a diff weather or not the subs were firing inside the cabin or at the taillights. i know its diff with a ported box but the was a diff when i had 3 12" sealed and i had the subs firing up instead of to the lights.

idk ill probly just go with sub up port back since it gives me a chance to make the box a tad bit bigger and gives me a little more room to mess with it. if i dont like it i can always have another box built.
