Should I get this head unit and more

I want to get a new sound system. I mean the whole works. A new head unit. 4 speakers placed on the back deck and two in the two front doors.

I was thinking about getting a stereo like the Pioneer DEH-P8400BH CD Receiver. What speakers should I get I was thinking about getting a 2 pair of the Boss chaos eXxtreme speakers. I don't know what to get for the front doors.

I also want to get an amp. what amp should I get. What information do I need to make a decision on which amplifier to get.

Also would my car (a toyota corolla 2004) have enough power to juice this all up including a new subwoofer and amp. Or should I find an alternator and stronger battery to install to make all that work?

Thank you

P.S. I'm looking for high clarity not really loud noise

I really don't get all this! What does this mean! CAn you show me literature where I can start reading. I am somewhat new to this.

literature and links for reference?

sure! start here and start reading.

to decipher his signature:

"F stage" = front stage = front speakers. he is misusing the term.

"R stage" = rear stage = rear speakers. he is misusing the term.

"S stage" = sub stage = subwoofers which he calls "R stage"

"amps" = amplifiers = the extra amplifiers some install to give more power to speakers. more power = more volume with less distortion

"wiring" = wiring used, for power, ground, speaker wire, and RCA's

"electrical" = electrical system upgrades. he has an Optima group 34 battery under the hood with a second battery rated 147 amp-hours (AH) in the trunk. and he has done the "big 3" wiring upgrades which you can read more about in the forum.

i agree Boss speakers are junk. stick with Pioneer speakers if you are on a budget. Crutchfield will help you in choosing what speakers will fit your car. they will also provide you (for free) mounting brackets, wiring harnesses, and custom instructions for your vehicle. a big plus for any novice. they also have the best customer support in the industry. i highly recommend them for any novice wanting to DIY.

there are lots of choices. we need a budget though. and you should pay more than $20 for speakers if you want "high clarity". like that budget x10.

amplifiers and their installation are expensive, complex, and require skill and experience to install. i do not recommend amplifier installs for a novice who does not feel like spending 20+ hours researching/reading. you have to be patient, you need time, you need tools, and you need a place to do it. on the street in Queens is probably not the best place to install an amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif paying an installer is a good move if the above requirements (all of them) are not met.

an external amplifier will certainly make your speakers sound better. but you can also introduce noise into the system if not properly implemented.

a small sub and amp, sure. no problem. a larger sub and amp is more complex and requires more money to be successful.

2003-08 Toyota Corolla

Another reason Crutchfield is the best place for a novice:

Basic 4-speaker system

This basic system comes equipped with 6-3/4" speakers in the front door and 6"x9" speakers in the rear deck. Toyota uses 4-ohm speakers up front and 6-ohm speakers on the rear deck, so almost any aftermarket speakers will work well with the factory radio, excepting certain high-performance speakers that really need an amp to be happy.

Front Doors

The Toyota’s front door houses a 3-bolt 6-3/4" speaker, and there’s no direct replacement. You can install a 6-1/2" or 5-1/4" speaker in the front door with the help of a mounting bracket, but you’ll need to drill some new screw holes to mount this bracket. No offense to Toyota, but the stock front speakers aren’t the greatest, so you’ll experience a big jump in sound quality when you install some new speakers.

You’ll have to remove the door panel to get at the factory speaker, which is attached to the door with three rivets. You’ll need to drill out the rivets to remove the speaker, so make sure you have the right tools for the job. Since the factory speaker is molded to a bracket in the door, you will definitely need a new bracket to mount any aftermarket speaker. Wiring harnesses are available to connect the new speaker to your factory wiring. (Crutchfield includes speaker harnesses and mounting brackets free with every speaker order).

Rear deck speakers

You’ll find 6"x9" speakers on the rear deck in both speaker systems. To access this location, you’ll have to fold down the rear seats and remove the rear pillar trim. You can then remove the rear deck panel. You can install a 6"x9" speaker in the rear deck, or a 6-1/2" or 5-1/4" speaker if you use a mounting bracket. You’ll need to drill holes in the rear deck to install aftermarket speakers, and the angle of rear window makes this job very difficult. There will be a bit of a gap between the speaker and the rear deck or the bracket, so we recommend using a speaker baffle to fill in the gap. You will want to cut off the bottom of the baffle and use the remaining portion as a gasket.

6-speaker system

The upgraded 6-speaker system adds front door tweeters to the standard 4-speaker system and accommodates the same size speakers. You may be able to use the factory tweeter mounting bracket when installing new tweeters as long as your aftermarket tweeters have a threaded insert on the back.

Tools needed for installing new speakers:

Phillips screwdriver

Small flat blade screwdriver

10mm socket ratchet & extension

Drill & 1/8" bit with right angle adapter

Panel tool
