Should I get a Rott?

I have a rott mix, he is 130# and by far not the biggest rott I have seen, when he was younger (he is 9 now) i would have him chase my truck and he could keep up with me until I hit 28mph, he also could flat foot 54". He grew up at a preschool and is totally trustworth with kids

get something more loyal that you dont have to worry about freaking out and killing some little kid. rott's are a little overrated imo. get a german shepherd, or something with a lil wolf in it. Husky's are nice and they have blue eyes. my aunt used to have a husky that was half wolf and it was pretty badass

That's what I was thinking, from what I have seen/heard Rotts are some of the most loyal dogs you can own.

your an idiot

training isn't necessary, just stay consistant, and give him love when he is young, you will have the best companion ever.
Exactly what I was thinking. I'm gonna have a lot of free time this summer, and my old dog died about a month ago, so I'm just looking for something that can basically be like my best friend. I've read Rotts are very loyal and great companion dogs if raised and socialized properly. Plus I know the parents of the dog are incredible. Both are in great shape and very well tempered. I think I'm gonna go through with it, raising 2 pups will be tough at first but worth it.

My wife and I bottle fed my dog Junior and his 7 siblings from the age of 2 days, they all made it and I feel that because I was so close to Jr. when he was so young is why he and I have such a connection, he is by far the best dog I have ever had. by far!!!

good luck

im just saying if it doesnt get the proper training, u could have a lawsuit on your hands. you want something thats loyal, not something thats going to attack the mailman for walking to your house
I understand what you are saying. But I think a lot of times ppl get Rotts in order to be their guard dogs, when really they werent meant for that. Any dog could do that by the way, it's just Rotts come across more intimidating and, like I said before, are raised the wrong way.

I will be spending the majority of my summer with the dogs, taking them to parks, to friends places, places with blacks, mexicans, places with kids, so I think if it is raised in that way, it will turn out great.

yep, like a wolf mix, like I said your an Idiot.

read the rest of the posts, I have a rott mix that has never been formally trained and I trust him more around kids than I do adults.

And I will say that he is extremely protective of my sons. If someone he doesn't know comes up to the house, Jr. will put himself between the strainger and my sons, no matter where they are. and that is without training.

thanks.

The people I am getting the pup from take great care of their dogs and I am friends with them, so I will be able to take the dog over there as well and reunite him with other dogs and his family, which I figured will be a good thing. If it turns out anything like its parents I know it will be an awesome dog.

All his dogs are extremely well socialized due to the fact that in his 'business' he has people of all kinds at his house all the time. The first time I went over there both of his Rotts just came to me and leaned on me and stayed by my side, that's the kind of dog I want.
