Should I get a Rott?

2 weeks ago I got a 4 month old pup, her name is Annie and she is a mut, half Rottweiler and half Beagle. Well I'm thinking of getting a companion for her, and I can get a 7 week old pure bred Rottweiler from Champion bloodline for around $400.

Anybody experienced in raising Rotts? I know they take a lot of work and need to be heavily socialized, which I plan on doing over the summer. Just looking for some advice or concerns about the breed.

damn 400 is a good price i paid a little over 1k for my dog...make sure you have papers and all.. make sure you let the dog know you're the leader when its young, cause they are very stubborn dogs.... especially when they have in their mind that they are the leader....other than that very good dog to have...

rotts are not as bad or as hard to teach as people think.

they were used in europe to pull little carts for small kids.

they are awsome dogs. very protective especially of children.

as long as you spend time with her and play with her and of course have kids around she will be like another kid herself.

my 1st dog was a rott. she was a giant. 174lbs. one of the best breeds of dogs as long as you dont train them or treat them like junk yard dogs.

174 lb rott = hip displacia/fat as hell...
no she was all muscle ill try to get some of the pics i have of her before she died.

when she got to be around 8 she started having hip problems like most rotts do. she ended up having a tumor in her jaw that started to eat away and her skull. when we found the tumor she only lived for 5 days after it. at least she was at home and happy.

yeah 174 pounds seems kinda heavy man, but i bet she was a beast.

Well i would be getting a male, and the price is $1000, but I'm getting a good friends discount.

What about enrolling the dog into classes? Is that necessary? I mean I have been researching training techniques and the such, so I figure I'll do just fine, but I've never put a dog through classes and didnt know if professional training was really that beneficial.

she was very fit.

i know i have a pic of her with her mom and dad. her mom was about the same size. dad was a good bit bigger. he had a head like a beach ball.

well not that big but at least the size of a basket ball

ive never cared for training. ive always looked at it like this

if i cant train the dog and keep it safe and under control i shouldnt have that dog.

the only thing training can do is when you have the papers after the graduate some insurance compaines will give you a break on your homeowners. its called Canine Good Citizen

get something more loyal that you dont have to worry about freaking out and killing some little kid. rott's are a little overrated imo. get a german shepherd, or something with a lil wolf in it. Husky's are nice and they have blue eyes. my aunt used to have a husky that was half wolf and it was pretty badass

Petco does 'puppy' classes if you want to get off cheap, I think its about $200 or you can pay a little more and get one on one classes.

I would def not skip on classes of some sort though, the sooner you get the dog in check and let it know whos boss the better off you will be when its like 100lbs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
