all the info i found was just by doing google searches.
and while i will say that from what i have read, the quality has gotten better, it is still very low compared to industry standards. and out of all auto manufacturers in the US, volkswagen has the highest amount of lemon claims in 2006
however, they still do have some issues, although they are hit or miss, but when they have issues, they seem to be fairly major, and vw does nothing about the situation and it looks like often times they try to ignore the issue.
albeit, this may be a small percentage of their vehicles, this is the information that i found doing my research.
and //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif - i have also found it hard to find honest opinions regaurding vw's on the internet... this is in no way a reference to anyone here, or anyone specific for that matter, but when i did find negative reviews of vw's from people who had legitimate problems with their vehicles, there was ALWAYS a volkswagen fan boy replying to their review with such brilliant responses as "youre an idiot! you dont know how to own a car!". and yes, that was an actual reply, to someone who had several legitimate gripes about their new passat that went through 3 engines within 6 months or ownership, all with the same failure.
