I am not saying that I have any answers to the issues here in the US or for the Big 3. All I do know is that we no longer make many things here in the US. Cars were our last big manufacturing industry left. It seems like that ship will sail soon. I understand that Walmart prices are all you can afford, but that just perpetrates the cycle. It puts more and more US workers on the streets looking for work.
Basicaly this is my whole point. The US has become this place where everything is disposable. We buy the cheapest crap that last for a year or so then we toss it out and buy another one. We are the only society that I know that thinks this way. Why not buy better quality once and have it last longer? I don't know of anything made in China that is of better quality. I only know of things that are cheaper. If it costs a few bucks more to buy a better quality part made in the US, why not? Better yet, do without until you can afford it. Why settle for the low price crap? I admit, I have bought crap from Walmart myself before. I know that I have contributed to the problem. But I am now making a concerted effort to buy durable goods that are made to last, hopefully made in the US.
And I know that there are some contradictions in this post and I am not sure why that is. It seems like the US car companies were OK if their cars only lasted 3 years. That meant that you would be forced to buy a new one. But outside of the Big 3, it seems like other manufacturing industries in the US focus on quality and durability. I wonder why that is?
