Ok so my friend just called and offered to sell me his 1993 ford explorer for $350. This seems like a great deal to me since it runs pretty good and has four wheel drive. But i would like to here some more opinions on this. It seems to be in pretty good condition for its age. It has a little rust and some average dents and scratches. I think it has about 260,000 miles on it. What do you guys think i should do? And does anybody have an ball park range for other costs like the license and basic insurance on it for a 16 year old boy?

Bo thats CHEAP for any running car.

I would buy it period, if not to turn around and sell it.

Find out if the transmission has been replaced/rebuilt, cause they always had problems and teh motor is good for about 2 transmissons.

So as soon as teh 2nd one goes out, basicly needs to be parted out or parked. IMHO.

Is only 350 bucks, hell I would do it, but I dont have the room anymore being I live at an apartment complex. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I miss my house that I sold a while back. Could fit like 16 vechichles and a tank there, lol!

make it a comp car.
I wish i had enough money to do so but im not sure if i could afford the insurance.

If i did get it i would just use it to screw around with on weekends.

Would insurance be real expensive for just liability (i think thats what its called)?

liability, or insurance in general all depends on age and moving violations/accidents. im 20, have 2 accidents and 4 speeding tickets and my liability on a 94 volvo is 600 every 6 monthes. so basicly 100 a month. now i went looking at cobalt SS`s and my insurance company wanted 4700 dollars every 6 monthes for full coverage. thats right folkes. almost ten thousand a year just for insurace. anything supercharged or turbocharged under the age of 25 and with accidents will **** you. even a VW jetta with a tubo they wanted like 3200 every 6 monthes.

you might be able to get insurance 150-200 a month
I'm pretty sure the insurance on my monte carlo is a little over $600 for 6 months. And i would expect this to be cheaper than my car. (i do get that good student discount if that matters very much)

It shouldn't be that much for insurance, hell, I only paid 71 a month for mine with 3 points on my liscence on my Contour. I'm sure that it shouldn't be too bad. I'd buy it for sure though, it's better than my 89 F-250 1 ton 2wd.....

Honestly, it is well worth it. Most dealerships will give you a min. of 500 dollars trade in, so you could make 150 on the deal and get a different car *shrug*. Could be a good vehicle anyways.

x2. For 350 thats a steal. The only cars you normally see around that price have rolled in a ditch a few times. I mean wow, thats like 1 car payment for most people. Even if you gotta do repairs it will *most likely* still work out cheaper.
