Should I build a custom box or no?

I recently bought a Diamond Audio D6 12 inch sub. The sealed recommended internal volume is .875

I can't find a box like that anywhere. Should I just build a box that is .875 or should I just buy a box with 1 cubic feet? Which will sound better and hit harder?

The difference in volume between the two is minimal for a sealed box....1ft3 would be fine.

But you should always build or have built a custom box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif

Prefabs ****....period //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Build it out of half inch particle board, that you can get at any hardware store. Just make sure that you seal it good with some sort of caulking. I use liquid nails. If you want it to look like a normal box you can buy the carpet to cover it online, but that's just for looks it won't affect the sound any. Use the link for a picture of the easiest type to build.

What type of sound are you looking for OP? Sealed would work good for that sub and give you good SQ.

Build it yourself using 3/4" MDF and either a brad nailer or screws. Use wood glue to secure the joints. It would be much better than any prefab enclosure.
