setting up 2 channel alpine

I recently bought a old school alpine 3523 and it was 2 gain controls. One for each channel. It also has a fixed/variable switch. If running this amp to my front speakers do I need the switch on variable or fixed?

Well... This is actually kinda a shot in the dark, but might lead you in some direction.... I can only assume the fixed/variable is talking about the power supply output which would be dependent on the load....so fixed will give you the same output at both 2 and 4 ohms while variable will give you more output at 2 ohms...but I have no experience in this one

a pic of the amp and settings would be helpful. based on the layout of the controls, i could determine what it does.
