Hello everyone,
Okay I will begin my post by stating what equipment I have. This system is in my 2002 Silverado X-cab:
Woofer - Pioneer Class D Mono GM-8500M
Amp - Pioneer TS-W2502D2
Enclosure - 14"x9"x18.5" closed (not ported)
Head Unit - Pioneer DEH-6300UB
I currently have the LFS on my amp set to 80Hz (the range being 40-240 Hz) and the gain is set at approximately 4v (the rnage being 6.4v to 0.2v). I have the Bass Boost setting off, the HPFsetting set to 125HZ, SW2 setting at 80HZ: +4 (the range being +6 to -24),
My problem is that the sub sounded great for approximately the first 6 months. There were some songs that had certain bass hits or lines that would distort slightly, but my seat was folded over the sub, and that helped create a muffling effect that dampened the distortion. However, recently the sub has been getting more and more distorted and I cannot figgure out why, as I have not changed any of the settings. The distortion I am speaking of sounds something like knocking on a thin hollow box (only during a select few frequencies) and it is getting very annoying. I generally listen to a mixture of rock, rap, and alternative music. My listening levels range from 30-110dB (estimation). The sub makes the distorting sounds at all levels currently. One final note, I have a remote switch to lower/raise the level of the sub that I frequently change from medium (for rock songs that don't require too much bass to reproduce studio quality sound) to full (for rap songs that require much harder hitting bass). I apologize for such a lengthy post, i just wanted to get all the pertinent details that I could to prevent confusion. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
