when setting the gain on my amp... do i leave all the settings on my cd player to zero, like bass, treble, fader, balance and leave the loudness off? and then do i turn the subwoofer output on the cd player all the way up and then the cd player to 80% volume and then turn the amp gain up to match the HU before it starts clipping?

I believe that you should set the EQ settings on the deck the way that YOU like to hear your music, then move on from there.

The gain setting sticky is very useful.

Yeah, set all the settings the way you would listen to the music. Turn your headunit up to the loudest you'll listen to it, then set the gain.

i mean if u want u can set everything to flat n set ur gains but u hav to leave it all like that or u might get clipping so its best to just set it flat or the way u want it than set ur gains and try to leave it like that, although its hard deppending apon the types of music u listen to. but save ur equipment

you could set it "by ear" like you mentioned. but i would use a dmm to be safe.
