I just picked up 2 Sundown Ev3-15 and have them hooked up to a Kenwood 9106d. Each sub should be getting 500@2Ohm.

I put in a 40 hz tone and set the gain with the bass 0 and loudness off and can go to .5 volt until I hear a tone change. My head unit says it has 1v RCA but that is only 1/2 on the gain and I don't hear clipping until ~3/4.

When I listen to music I have to turn the loudness on and bass up to +3 out of 6 until I hear distortion.

Am I clipping when turning up bass and loudness even though I can't hear it? If so can anyone point me towards something cheap to tell me when it is clipping.

Or do I need to just breakdown and buy something like a Crescendo BC2000D which will give me 1k@2ohms but also tells me when it is clipping. Also if I wanted I could push 2k@.5ohm and blow these subs and get some SA-15's which should handle 1k each.

Thanks

Dmm's are most affective between 50-60hz, I'm pretty sure your problem is the 40hz tone. Try a 50hz tone and see how it does .
