Ok I have a orion 2500d and orion 4002

I have the following

300Amp alt

2 yellow tops.

Should I make 2 runs of the 0 gage back to my battery in the trunk or will one be good enough?

What size fuse should I put between the 2 batteries?

Should I ground the amp to the sheet metal or directly to the battery?

Here is a pic of what I was thinking. suggestions are more then welcome.

Whoa. Your making that way to complicated and EXPENSIVE! what is the fuse rating on the orion, if its less 150 amps or less you don't need that 1/0 gauge running all the way to back, maybe just 4ga on the positive, since your vehicle is probably a newer one and has a self regulator the max you'll see is 13.5 to 14.5 volts, so even if your altenator is cranking out 300amps you will not see it at this battery, the only time it will benefit you is when you put it under a load, eg. your amp. once you place a battery near your amp thats where you bulk power will come from, as long as that battery stays well charged and itll have little affect on your cars electrical system espeacially with that nice altenator, considering the dry cell and CCA it has a single 4 gauge or 1/0 positive running to the rear will be fine, use 1/0 from your 2nd battery to your amp on positive and negative, ground the 2nd battery with 4gauge or 1/0 if you like. the ground to the second battery and the positive to the 2nd battery will be for charging purposes and thats all, if you don't beleive me, put a small 40 amp fuse on the positive running to the front and crank your amp, I bet it won't blow? that is if the 2nd battery has a good charge. you don't need a fuse from the second battery to the amp at all as long as it is clean routed and no longer than a couple feet, EXACTLY HOW IS THAT WIRE SUPPOSED TO SHORT ANYWAY? unless you hook it straight to a ground. You'll see a little better power without that excess fuse.

The orion has no fuses

And it puts out 2500w rms+ @ 1 ohms.

So in theory it will **** up 200+ amps from the alt.

And then at night you have your Lights ect... running so the 300amp alt will be perfect.

And my car is 1998 and my batteries see 14.8 v @ 1000 rpms.

I just want these questions answered

Should I make 2 runs of 1/0 gage back to the second battery?

Also is grounding the amps to the battery like in the pic the right thing to do?

And I will need 1/0 gage wire, 4 gage would be a waiste of time and money.

How many 3000w system do u see with 4 gage wire? Not many.

I say for sake of easiness, ground to the chassis, not the battery. Three 0awg connections on one terminal would be one big bulk of piss me off.

you want to run the 1/0 guage wire from the battery under the hood, to the second battery and fuse at BOTH batteries. you do not need to run a ground back to the battery under the hood. i would do probably 2 runs of 1/0 gauge for ground in the trunk. then ground each amp to the second battery and wire the positives to the battery.
