Would that cause anything more than cosmetic damage?

Clean it up and maybe get some new screws but its nothing serious. Most, if not all door speakers that are not sealed get this corrosion. Being a saltwater boater Ive learned of preventitive maintenice. Try some grease, oil, vaseline or the best, dialectric grease and treat the surfaces.

Clean it up, get a new srcew, ring terminal etc. or whatever you are using for a connection, reassemble and put everything in place then put some of that corrosion resistant spray on it so that it don't happen again...what I do is spray the stuff on my finger then rub it onto the electrical connection. Works for me....years later still looks the same.
