Does anyone remember when they first got into car audio?

I first got into car audio when I was a freshman in high school back in the 92-93 in think.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif I suscription to Car Audio magazine, I believe it was the only one we had back then. I didn't even have a car over license but dreamed of driving though the school parking lot quaking LOL. Back then the big thing everyone was running was Kicker 15's( the gold emblem on the dust cap), Pyle subs, Apline head units, Orion subs and amps, Urban audio. Then around 93 the talk around town was the fosgate amps (punch 60). Back then if you had a CD player you were the ****. I think this was when prioneer first came out with the detachable face.

All that seemed so long ago.

My first set up, that wasn't house speakers that ran off the HU, was a Jensen 500 (big blue thing...still have it) with a pair of Jensen 10's, the ones with the hand prints. Blau 3 way 6x9 and 4" Jensen tweeters in the dash power by an Optimus. Optimus 3 way active x-over and a Clarion tape deck.

Me and a buddy were just talking about this last night at work. He mentioned the time when everyone was walking around with waht they called a pull-out. We also talked about just about everyone we know had either a Jensen 250 or 500 at one time or another. For the money, they were actually not bad amps.

My first set up (just over a year ago) was 2 Inifity Kappa Perfect 12's in a 4.3 cube ported box powered by a zapco ag 350, ran by a pioneer deh-p4400. Hit a 142 at a db drag event, so it wasnt too bad of a first system. Good thing its all up hill from there

Sony shaft style am/fm cassette player, pioneer "triaxal" boxed speakers, and a "100 watt power booster" of unknown origin. Talk about old shcool huh?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I got into car audio in umm... 1968 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You kids are too young to know what a reverb is, right?

My first system, hmmm.

It was 1996 and it was my first car, a 1988 Cavalier Z24 (5 speed). The car came with 4 blown speakers, and a tape deck.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif My aunt and uncle are big audio buffs (they have an $80,000 home stereo) and knew a place I could get a cd player and some speakers. Thinking nothing of it I turned the car over to them and continued my vacation (I drove from Virginia to Michigan with no radio, ICK! ). I came back later that day and suddenly I had a Clarion head unit, Pioneer 6.5's in the doors, Sony 3" tweeters in the dash, Pioneer Premier 6 x 9's in the rear deck and two Kicker Competition 10's in a sealed box running off of a Kicker Impulse 652xi.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif I had THE coolest system of all my friends and teammates. It all cost like $1,500 with install. They paid for everything and had me pay $50 a month back to them.

Within 2 years the Pioneers had blown and were replaced with Infinity Kappa's. I added a Kenwood EQ and a Sony 754HX amplifier. I also had to replace one of my Kickers, it had a hole in it from a car accident that propelled a flashlight thru it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif This system got stolen in August of 2000.

Boy have times changed. The internet brings so much knowledge to first time buyers. I paid $400 for a Sony 4 channel amp, and thought I was SOME-BODY!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I got a reverb pedal for my electric guitar..:p

I first got hooked at about 1991, I think...earthquake made their debut, and my dad's car ran one of their first subs. I remember that the performance of the 12" was much better than the dual 10" kicker that my dad upgraded to later. The car had stock speakers, OEM tape head, some unknown amp. Then at about 1993, Orion and PPI Art series made a storm. Upgraded both the subs (to the kickers) and the PPI art series. SHould've kept the earthquake.

1994, bought my mobile ES deck, DSP and CD changer that I still run to this day (except CD changer). 1996~97, bought my amps and RF speakers, subs that again, I still run to this day.

There were a few changes in-between (a few cars in the garage), but that's the main ones. I once had a bandpass. Thought it rocked..should've known better...

My first system I built was in a 1990 Grand Am back in 1996. I had a Toshiba cd player, stock interior speakers, a Boss 420 amp, and one California Proflie 12 in a single bandpass. No impressive at all.

Easy now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I still have my first tube amp kit that I built for the car. That also doubled as the heater. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Old old school pioneer cd player...with a detatchable face plate...played cd-r's which is cool from like...1994. Sony 5.25" coax 3 ways and blau 5x7 coax 3 ways from crutchfield off the HU and 2 12" mtx 6000s in a prefab sealed box powered first by bridge usx4085 and then by jbl 600.1 Decent system...could have gotten better for the money, and that's why i came here! anyways...sold off the mtx's w/ the box for $260 and bought my 2 12k's for $260...so a free upgrade! As of now...i love my current setup! peace

Does anyone remember when everyone in town was riding around slammed Ford Escorts with 14in hammers nad neons bumping DJ Magic Mike. Back then I hear some pretty loud systems from those Escorts, maybe because of the hatch back design.

I still have my first stereo...some good ole' JBL stuff from the 80's...now used as home audio:D

Now a friend is getting a pair of SE's and a Tsunami amp as his first system...and I felt lucky:rolleyes:
