Regular car battery as an extra battery in the trunk for my amp?

I did it for 2 years and never once noticed the smell of the battery venting, I'm thinking about doing it again with my newer car, but this time I may buy a battery cover box with or without a vent. I'm currently exploring these options.

So yes it can be done, but it is a gamble and you probably shouldn't do it.

I did it because I got a free battery to throw in the trunk of my $400 sentra and I needed to stabilize my voltage.

fun fact: a cheap easy battery mounting option is a plastic battery tray from a 90's beretta. I installed it to the trunk floor with a small 3" X 6" block of plywood and 8 drywall screws.

i was asking because some guy was selling his box made just for that, its an acryllic box i believe sealed when closed but has a little tube through it for venting and a 150 amp bussfuse on the top of it.

okay so i just picked up an optima redtop sc34a battery, its an agm battery, has a ca of 1000 and cca of 800, will this be enough to power 1000-1200 rms? i just got a brand new alternator its only 100 amps though i already put it in, i havent done the big 3 wiring yet i took out my system cause i busted my alternator, too eager to slap without enough power, lol. but now i think i have everythign i need, could someone let me know how would i wire that second battery i have? or a link to a thread that has it there? i been lookin around no luck kinda

I have 2 marine batts installed in my jeep since they were free. Easiest way would be to buy a sealed container and run a plastic tube from it to a hole in your fender to let it vent. Just be careful it doesn't overheat.

The fumes are not toxic. Its mostly hydrogen, which can be dangerous but only if you have a very dense quantity. Though it is not toxic, hydrogen will make it slightly hard to breathe and you may cough from it, this is because hydrogen displaces oxygen.
