RAAMmat honest opinions and experiences.

I dont think ANT can do that legally (naming competitors in a test). I am no lawyer by any means, but without getting competitors permission that could be defamation regardless of facts being accurate or not.
An unbiased party can absolutely though. So instead of ragging on about this, why dont you do your own sound deadener showdown and report to us.
There is nothing illegal by testing a product and posting the results unless you rigged the test and are reporting false claims.

They are constantly saying how superior SS is to RAAMat, they specifically name other brands, they can do a legitimate test too if they wanted.

Actually you cant. Ever noticed why laundry detergent commercials don't name there competitors? Without permission from the competing company to do so that is a big no no.

When should we expect results from your testing?

They are doing that right now, in this thread, specifically naming RAAMat and saying how much better SS is than it by the tests they have done.

I have some SS Damp left over, no cymbals though, if someone wants to mail me some BXT and cymbals I'll do the test, post the video and pay for return shipping for the cymbals.

That was proven in testing by an unbiased party, therefore that info is true and factual (with all testing info stated). So it wouldnt be defamation. Any new and further testing would still be have to be done by an unbiased party..

I didnt bother reading the entire thread since the few post I did it seem pointless some what. However, here is some cold hard facts. Sound Deadener showdown showing SS is the best out there..

Apparently, you didn't read any of the thread.

thank you. i was just about to post this also
also i keep saying rudy but it may be foxpro5? im not sure. somebody please correct me
Weak.

Even weaker.

For the record, this was posted in the 6th post. You guys should probably try reading SOME of the thread.

Wow this thread is getting me a headache

SecondSkinRep, I know your trying to sell your product and all, but cant you just stick to the original thread title... .he wants OPINIONS on RAAMAT, not proof that damplifier pro is better than it or why he should buy your stuff...

Sure I get it, it's a really good product,(I'm thinking of buying some stuff myself) but this is like the 3rd thread I've read this week about how nothing is comparable to it.

Nothing would be gained by one seller do "cymbal tests" and publishing the results - with or without naming names. People don't believe that sort of stuff and there will always be partisans that scream: "I don't care about cymbals, I'm using this stuff in a car". The tests I did were only intended to determine some very basic characteristics of the products - basically were they anything like what the sellers claimed they were? Part of this involved subjecting them to heat. This showed whether they were asphalt or butyl, since many sellers at the time (and a few still) weren't being honest. Heat tolerance is a good indicator of adhesive quality and is a standard test used by polymer manufacturers, but even those results have been ridiculed by people saying: "I never park my car in a 250° oven //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif I originally included photographs that showed what happened to samples that had been soaking in acetone for a few hours because I thought it was interesting to see how they broke down. I took that section down because too many people insisted on a purely literal interpretation of the experiment.

When it comes to performance, things get even trickier. There are standard (and expensive) tests that could be performed that would give us good baseline data, but the manufacturers don't want to share those results because they can be manipulated or falsified. A few sellers have posted completely fabricated numbers on their Web sites so an honest seller's products would fare poorly in comparison.

I've devised a few tests that come very close to the standard. The simplest is similar to the cymbal idea. No two cymbals are identical and it would be sort of expensive to buy a few dozen cymbals for this purpose. It's easier to buy some 12" square blanks of 22 gauge steel from onlinemetals.com, Home Depot, or whatever is easiest. Drill a small hole in one of the corners and hang them up. Start adding small, identically sized pieces - 2"x6" works well - to the centers of the blanks. Hit them on the back with a stick or mallet and isten. The differences between products can be amazing.

The first thing you'll notice is that every butyl/foil product out performs any asphalt product by a huge margin. Any butyl/foil product outperforms butyl without foil (Mylar for example) by a similar margin. Beyond that, foil thickness and butyl composition come into play. I'm not going to give you an exact ranking, but Damplifier Pro and Cascade V-Max do very well. Damplifier and Dynamat Xtreme aren't that far behind. RAAMmat and Hushmat come in behind them.

The old idea we had about layering products is wrong. Each additional layer brings very little improvement and really just serves to reinforce the first constraining layer a little bit. I don't believe it is worth doing. Doing multiple full layers to create a barrier - an idea directly promoted by Dynamat - is using the wrong tool for the job. First damp the panel, focusing on the center with a single application of about 25% and then use a separate barrier. This will be less expensive and more effective. Vibration damping is a critical foundational component of sound deadening, but more is not better.

Because you quickly reach the point of diminishing returns, you can't think in terms of how many layers of product "A" will equal the performance of product "B". I'd suggest that all of these materials should be used in exactly the same way. That means that RAAMmat will never fully equal the performance of Dynamat Xtreme (as an example that hasn't gotten a lot of play in this thread), but it will make a big difference. You have to decide how much performance you want and what you are willing to pay. For many people, RAAMmat will be good enough and you'll save some money. For others, it won't and they'll choose to pay some more. I wouldn't quite go to the Zapco/Pyle extreme, but maybe Sundown/Cadence //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ive allways wondered myself, i got some damp pro for my doors, and man did it make a difference, i also got some bxt for my trunk rattle, also made a big difference, but since this is about what you think about bxt, i like it, it is pretty messy, but its only messy because im really messy, i really havent used much deadener though, but from what ive used so far, i like bxt

the sound deadener showdown was done going on 4 years ago, not much of a good source anymore, seeing that there could have been (and most likely has been) changes to the material.
Surprising little has changed. ED has changed a few times, but not much else. What has changed is my understanding of these things - I was wrong in a few key areas. The biggest mistake I made was to dismiss viscoelasticity. The interaction between the constraining layer and the VE adhesive is by far the most important damping mechanism. Adding mass has almost no effect. I was also wrong to buy into the cover everything idea. I missed the importance of using barriers since they weren't widely available at the time and I accepted the seller's notion that the same thing could be accomplished with lots and lots of vibration damper.

SO glad to see rudy, rude boy, whatever he want's to be called these days, post!

Very good to see your reply. I always wondered about someone doing an actual test on the layering idea.

And, I'm not going to be the guy who tells Ant how I feel about his actions on forums and then back pedal by saying "oh but don't get me wrong, I am still looking into buying your product" for fear of Ant or his customers getting mad. I personally don't give a ****...

Fact of the matter is this: I might not be overly active on THIS particular forum, but I read all the forums a lot. God forbid someone on this forum and especially DIYMA(Ant's own forum btw...) say anything about Raammat or any other sound dampening companies. I am going to sound like a broken record here... but seriously, if your product is superior, it will keep selling. Stop advertising in every thread.

This one in particular was made because the guy wanted opinions on people who use BXT. You came in, and of course you don't use that product, you have developed your own. So why, other than bragging about your own shit, would you even bother taking the time to post? You say it is just to clear things up that people don't understand, but at the end of all your "educational" replies, it comes out to be "because of this scientific reason that I know all about and you know nothing about, SS is better than Raammat." EVERY TIME!

Now I'm not going to be like the other people who pointed it out and come back talking about how I still want to try your product, because the way the company presents itself effects my purchase just as much as price and product performance. The way you act in threads that are about competitors products has turned me 100% away from wanting your product in my vehicles.
