questions on VC's

this might sound noobish...but how can a coil read that it is dual 2, dual 4, dual 1, SVC 4, 2, and on..how can a DMM be hooked up to the leads and the DMM will say around 2.5 for my AQ and how does the coil know or the leads actually knwo that it is a dual 2..do they wrap the coils tighter? im confused on this big resitance thing..like what is different ion the coil between a dual 2 as compared to a dual 4. also..how does the amp know youre sending it a 4 ophm load or a 2 or 1 ohm load. any help wud be greatly appreciated, it is just something i am wondering. thank you

The amp doesn't "know" anything. The output of the amp is at a certain voltage. The current that the voltage induces in the load of the speakers is determined by Ohm's Law: V=IR where V is the output voltage, I is the current and R is the speaker impedance.

When you measure the coil of a sub with a DMM, you are measuring the DC resistance of the coil which is less than the nominal impedance. Impedance is the resisitance plus the inductance product plus the back EMF from the coil moving in the magnetic gap. The resistance of the coil is determined by the length and gauge of the wire wrapped around the former in the coil.

The final load that the speaker presents to the amp is determined by the wiring configuration, series, parallel or a combination of the two.
