My friend just got 88 sable and wants to put an aftermarket stereo in. We tried hooking up two different aftermarket ones and cant get sound out of either of them, Whats the deal? Do these have amped speakes or something? The factory cassette player plays fine:laugh: but the aftermarket ones dont give any sound.

Very strange...I can't think of anything off the bat except check your wiring. How were you connecting the speaker terminals? What is the impedance of the stock speakers? What about the aftermarket speakers you tried? Were they new? Did you make sure they worked in another vehicle?

The speakers work, the guy said the factory unit plays jus fine.

My question is, do the aftermarket headunits power on? If so, they could possibly have amped speakers, or like my buddy's GA, it could be that you have to keep the headunit and just relocate it to use an aftermarket unit. If the aftermarket unit works, run a set of wires from the headunit to the rear speakers and see if they work like that, if you don't want to run a set of wires all the way through the car you can splice into the speaker wire.

Constant 12V+ = Green/Yellow

A little information to help you out figuring out what color wires the speakers are. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I hope I've helped a little bit.

The aftermarket units power on. We used a aftermarket plug that fits into the factory harness. All the wires are hooked up right. There are only 5 wires coming out the factory harness for the speakers though. Thats not enough to have + and - for 4 speakers. They must share a ground?

There should be a color code/ID in that aftermarket radio harness somewhere. Everyone I have ever bought had a color code/ID with it. That 5th wire could very well be a remote turn on for an OEM amp. You tossed the packaging didn't you?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif  //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

That looks like sig material to me , That isn't CJ is it?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif  //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

anyways when this jokester is done bein an ***, OP do the old battery check to make sure the radio wires are correct. aka take just a small AA batter and touch it to the pos and neg of the speaker wires, and if you here a little pop, you know its correct, if you dont, you know the wires aren't right.

wont do any good if you have a factory amp chucku. What colors are the 5 wires exactly? Not trying to be an ***, just trying to help.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

exactly why i said to do battery test if none end up poping he knows he has an amp, or if the back two does he knows wiring harness is off and the front two are amped ect...

The car isnt here. I never thought about using a batt though. The aftermarket plug adapter he had didnt have a package. diddnt need one either. The radio wires were the same color as the ones on the plug, problem is they plug into the factory harness which 5 wires come out and there is no sound from speakers. Id try jumping the wires directly if there were 8 but dont know what wires are the shared? neg. Its not my problem so Im not going to loose sleep over it. Thanks for your input.
